Recaps: The Reception – The Kissing Game

I have to admit that I’m quite proud of our kissing game. You got a hint of it with my brother earlier. So what was it? Here were our rules:

When someone rolls the dice:

Even numbers: Bride and groom kiss

For Odd numbers to get us to kiss:

3 – Roller has to kiss another person to get the bride and groom to kiss

5 or 7 – Roller has to give a piece of advice, tell a joke or a favourite memory of either the bride or groom

9 or 11 – Roller has to wear a feather boa until someone rolls a nine or eleven

It didn’t quite work that way, but that’s okay as people seemed to enjoy themselves.

So the dice were rolled, and so we kissed:

Entertainingly, it became a contest for two of Mr. Bean’s cousin’s kids to wear the feather boa. I smell embarrassment when they eventually get married:

We had to cut it off for the sanity of their parents. But that didn’t stop Anne and Laurel from wearing them:

Dancing… Yeah! Part 2

Let’s begin where we left off last time:

Exhibit 4: Love song (aka. slow) dancing

We had a surprising amount of people dance at our wedding – I think they were even off the dance floor! They also allowed my photographer to take some shots like these:

Exhibit 5: Line Dancing

No wedding in Alberta is complete with out line dancing. Confession: I love line dancing and in grade 3 it was my goal to become one of the better line dancers in my class so that I could be one of the side leaders. Fortunately, most of my friends love line dancing. Even my grandma was trying!

Exhibit 6: Tunak Tunak Tun

What is Tunak Tunak Tun, you ask? Well, firstly take a look see:

Well, my family has this wonderful habit of dancing along to this song as shown by this:

Yes. We are just this cool.

But why are we dancing like this? Well… I am an engineering student, right? During the first week of the winter semester, there is a friendly competition between Engineering Departments called “Engg Week.” (Very original, I know). One of the tasks is for each department to create a movie that must fulfill certain requirements, such as a dance scene. ENGG WEEK 2007 brought a terrible movie for the chemical engineers, however a very hilarious dance scene: a random asian guy dancing to this music. Very politically incorrect, but entertaining. (You can see the video here: the dancing is at 11:50.) Well, I showed it to my brother, who showed it to his East Indian friends, who told my brother that this was a very popular song in India and showed him the music video above. My brother came and told me and we laughed. For some reason we started dancing to it while watching it on the computer. Soon enough, my family joined us and it “blossomed” into the “Bean’s family’s sweet but hilarious dance.”

Dancing… Yeah! Part 1

I’m not bashful in saying that I LOVE dancing but I am not very good at it. But that doesn’t stop me from having fun (and making a fool of myself)! I guess one could say that one of the “themes” of my wedding celebration was dancing – for lots of it happened!

Exhibit 1: Bachelorette Party

For my bachelorette party, we went burlesque dancing. It’s safe to say that attempting to shimmy in a strapless bra that is too big is not the most pleasant experience. (And I still can’t shimmy!) Unfortunately there are no pictures of us dancing, but we do like to pose.

I thought that once burlesque was done, I’d be done dancing for the night, but it’s not quite my luck. We went out for Greek food and what do Greek people do? They dance. What to Greek restaurants do to bachelorettes who are in pencil skirts, high heels and are slightly tipsy? They make them dance.

Yes, that's me attempting to dance. Too bad the guy in Crete cancelled out on us - I needed those lessons!

I ended up pathetically dancing around a shot glass on the floor in front of the entire restaraunt. It was relatively embarrassing but highly entertaining!

Exhibit 2: First Dance

Mr. Bean and I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons since September 2007 through our local university’s club. Our instructor offered to help us come up with a nice dance, so we ended up dancing a Rumba to The Beatle’s “And I love her.”

We kind of messed up the timing a bit at the beginning (due to the momentum of my dress coming and whomping Mr. Bean in the legs, but I don’t think anyone noticed.) Don’t we look lovely?

Exhibit 3: Parent’s Dance

We decided two days before the wedding what we were all going to dance to after my dad and I waffled between a few different songs. We eventually chose “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart for the lyrics were the most appropriate for father/daughter and mother/son. My dad was especially excited because apparently Rod Stewart is a big model train buff (lol).

It kind of looks like my dad and I are intense ballroom dancers as his suit appears to have tails, but it's just MIL Bean's dress!

My dad did amazingly well considering that we only practiced for about 20 minutes in my parents basement the day before the wedding. My parents are now also taking ballroom dancing lessons with us, so next time I dance with my dad it’ll be a lot more fun!
